Lori Nelson joined the Chef Ann Foundation team in June 2023. She is an accomplished chef and culinary leader based in Austin, Texas. With over 25 years of experience, Lori has demonstrated her expertise in various roles throughout her career.

Lori Nelson joined the Chef Ann Foundation team in June 2023. She is an accomplished chef and culinary leader based in Austin, Texas. With over 25 years of experience, Lori has demonstrated her expertise in various roles throughout her career.

Prior to joining our team, Lori served as Senior Director of Child Nutrition at KIPP Texas Public Schools, where she spearheaded the expansion of the child nutrition program across Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, Texas. Lori’s commitment to culinary excellence has earned her honors, including being a national finalist in the Sutter Homes Build a Better Burger contest and several recipe publications. She has also prepared private dinners for esteemed guests, including Lady Bird Johnson and her family.

With a passion for equity and inclusion, Lori brings strong leadership skills and a disciplined work ethic to the Chef Ann Foundation. Lori is dedicated to supporting sustainability in our food systems and believes that all children deserve healthy meals. In her spare time, you can find Lori spending time outdoors with her partner and their two children.

Why School Food Matters

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
